arXiv Search

Search recent papers in information retrieval, NLP and machine learning. Get an AI summary and the most relevant papers.

How it works

  1. Find candidates. Your query is matched two ways: keyword search (BM25) for exact terms and author names, and semantic search with OpenAI embeddings for meaning. The two lists are fused into one ranking.
  2. Rerank with a language model. A language model reads the top 50 titles and abstracts, scores how well each answers your query, and blends its order with the search order. If the reranker is unavailable, you get the search order and a note saying so.
  3. Summarize. A language model writes a short answer using only the top 10 abstracts, with numbered citations that link to the papers. If those abstracts don't answer the question, it says so instead of guessing.

How it was tested

Each design choice was compared on a fixed set of test queries using nDCG@10, a standard measure of how well the top 10 results are ordered. Queries and relevance grades were generated by AI models, not people, so treat the scores as a guide rather than proof. Results beyond the top 10 aren't measured.

Limits

The index is a fixed sample of recent cs.IR, cs.CL and cs.LG papers, searched by title and abstract only. Summaries can be wrong. Searches are sent to OpenAI. See the notice under the search bar for details.

Try:
Searches 23,304 arXiv papers (cs.IR, cs.CL, cs.LG) from Oct 2025 to Oct 2026, using titles and abstracts. Not every paper is included. Details
  • Not every paper is included. The index covers papers whose primary category is cs.IR, cs.CL or cs.LG, submitted in this window. cs.IR includes all 3,304 papers in range; cs.CL and cs.LG are capped samples of 10,000 papers each. Older and cross-listed papers are missing, so not finding a paper here doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
  • Titles and abstracts only. Search matches titles and abstracts, plus author names for keyword matches. It doesn't read full text, figures or citations.
  • Ranking is AI-assisted. A language model reorders the top results. Quality was measured on 100 AI-generated test queries graded by AI models; it hasn't been checked against human relevance judgments yet.
  • AI summaries can be wrong. Summaries are written only from the abstracts shown and may be incomplete or inaccurate. They're no substitute for reading the paper.
  • Privacy. Your search text is sent to OpenAI to rerank results and write the summary. Don't enter personal or confidential information.
  • Not updated live. The index is a fixed snapshot; new arXiv submissions don't appear automatically.
